National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Syracuse Section
Greetings everyone.

On behalf of the National Council of Negro Women, we would like to invite you to join us for our 56th Anniversary dinner and gala. The event will take place on Saturday, June 7th 2008 at the Renaissance Hotel Convention Center formerly known as The Marx. The event will begin at 6:00pm with a cash bar in the pre-reception lounge. Following a wonderful buffet dinner in the Lafayette Room, there will be a presentation of awards for outstanding community service. This years awards recipients are Onondaga County Legislator Lovie Winslow; Mary Nelson, Founder of the Youth Day Barbecue; and Nora McDonald, Vice President of NCNW, Syracuse Section. Entertainment will be provided by the Donna Alford JaSSBand.
NCNW was founded by Mary McLeod Bethune in 1935 with only 28 women; her vision was to create, “An organization of organizations.” Today there are hundreds of NCNW Sections with thousands of members across the United States and Africa as well; all under the leadership of Dr. Dorothy I. Height, President of the national organization. The mission of NCNW is to empower women to become strong and clear voices in our families and in our communities. “Charity begins at home”, which is the reason NCNW helps to provide financial support through donations to a number of community based organizations right here in this city in addition to our commitment to volunteerism and community service.
Please consider joining us on June 7th for this wonderful event. The cost of the tickets is $40.00 per person. For ticket information, please contact LaTrenda Carswell, Committee Chair, at 345-4943; or, Millanese Williams, President, at 657-5065. For additional information on the event, please go to www.softspokenband.com. Where our event is listed on the website, you will also find a link to listen to our interview, as well as the radio announcement for Power 106.9. For further information on the organization itself, please go to www.ncnw.org. Lastly, for anyone interested in finding out more about our NCNW Syracuse Section, please feel free to join us during our monthly member meetings on the 3rd Thursday of every month, 7:00pm, at the Dunbar Center on S. State St. Our last meeting for the summer is in June; we reconvene in September. However, applications for membership are accepted all year long. Please share this information with family and friends.
Thank you.
